Before any reproductions can be printed, we need a high quality digital file of your original. The best method to obtain a digital file is to photograph your original painting. We do this by:
- capturing the image using a high resolution camera with a fixed lens (designed to minimise distortion when photographing flat objects).
- Remove all distortion using software programmed specifically for the fixed lens. It removes any pin cushion/barrel distortion, lens vignette and primary colour separation on the edges.
- Sharpen the image
- Resize to original dimensions
- Adjust colour and tone to maximise reproduction in printing
- Print a proof and adjust as necessary
- Burn the digital image at various sizes to a CD
As an artist you appreciate the value of your art. Do you create for fun or for profit? If for profit then you realise that an original can only be sold by you once, and then it’s gone. A reproduction, on the other hand, can be sold many times, increasing your profit margin enormously.
My artist clients have seen the light and now get all their creations photographed, proofed and catalogued. That way they can sell the original, plus have the bonus of reselling reproductions many times over. With today’s technology sales can be made with out any stock (zero warehousing) using the internet or multimedia or even a portfolio. Buyers place an order, pay a deposit or the full amount, the reproduction is printed and then shipped to them. This is called ‘user pays’ and involves no money outlay from you.
We at OzPrintShop can digitally reproduce your art at a low cost. A reproduction is made as follows:
- The original art is photographed or scanned (depending on size and type of art)
- The new digital file is checked for accuracy - lens distortion, stitching (if required) and any introduced imperfections
- The dimensions of the digital file are matched to the original
- Colour, tone and sharpness are corrected
- Proofs are printed and matched to the original
- The digital images are burnt to CD with the artwork’s name and dimensions
Pricing is per piece and varies with complexity and size, with discounts for quantities. Some are easy, some are very difficult, but we have never found a piece that couldn’t be photographed or scanned.
Original art, paintings and drawings can be printed for sale on a variety of papers and canvas.
The choice of material to print onto can be decided upon according to the original art (canvas to canvas etc) and the customers needs. But canvas originals can be printed onto paper, drawings can be printed onto canvas etc.
We hold at least 3 types of art paper, but for large orders there are many papers available that we can purchase for you. The price may vary according to material costs but in general an art print on the highest quality paper (100% acid free, cotton based, non plastic, long archival life) costs about 50% more than a commercial photo paper.
