Every image that you decide to print is very important. To achieve a high quality result the printing machines must be tuned correctly, and most retail printers deliver excellent results.

But is it the best result?

Photo Kiosks lie...

A lot of my Professional clients use Photoshop® to fine-tune their images. That’s fine if you own a good program like Photoshop®, and are trained in the art of colour correction. It’s also wasted if you print through a photo kiosk, which is the preferred method of most retail print shops. Photo kiosks are just computers with special software that treat your images like everyone else’s images.

  • Firstly, the Photo Kiosk strips the image of it’s colour management profile and “assumes” your image was saved using sRGB profile.
  • Next, it applies an “auto contrast” or “auto levels” to the image. This enhances the image, but can also:
  • Over saturate the colours
  • Loose subtle highlight and shadow details
  • Increase noise, especially from incorrectly exposed images
  • Automatically crops the image to ‘fit’ the chosen print size.

In fact, the only way to get your image printed accurately is to use a specialist printer, like OzPrintShop.

Quality Assurance

We are not in the business of ‘repeat’ printing. It is economic suicide. We want to print your image ‘right first time’. To achieve this all of our equipment is profiled to an industry standard. Each monitor is profiled and each paper or substrate that we print onto is profiled to get the maximum contrast, accuracy and colour space. We do this in-house using an Eye-One spectrophotometer and software. Our printers are linearised and calibrated. The consumables (ink and paper) are brand name, not cheap imitations.

When you add it up. Our quality assurance means:

  • Repeatable results
  • Consistent colours
  • Maximum tonal range for the chosen paper
  • Brilliant colours
  • Smooth tones
  • Neutral gray tones
  • Long, long life with archival inks and papers - most will not appear to fade for over 100 years (subject to storage conditions)

Why use a specialist printer?
Printing Photos...

When dealing with a reputable photo printing company, you only need to make a couple of decisions:

  1. What sizes are required
  2. Do the prints need borders
  3. What substrate (paper) choices will suit the photos for their application
  4. Is the cost within budget
  5. Can they be delivered on time

Sizes

At OzPrintShop we use wide format printers, and can print photos to any custom size that will fit onto the roll of paper. You are not limited to market print sizes, so we can print either a set of photos to a standard size, a custom size or a variety of both. The only limitation is the quality of your files, and the roll widths of the papers (some papers are limited in roll width choices).

Borders

Generally, white borders are required for matting or handling purposes. For frames, the white border is 5mm and is printed inside the dimensions of the finished photo at no extra cost. For matting and handling, the white border is a custom size and is printed on the outside of the required photo dimensions. This uses more paper and is charged at the same rate as the photo paper.

Substrates (Papers)

There are many brands and varieties of surfaces with photo paper, like gloss, high gloss, metallic gloss, lustre, matt and pearl. The price varies according to how special the paper is but generally falls into 3 categories: Commercial, professional and art papers.

Cost

Surprisingly, our prices are on par with other printers, except for the humble 6”x4” print, which is heavily subsidised by large corporations. Postcard sized prints are used as a “loss leader” to gain customers and encourage them to spend money elsewhere in their stores. We want to print good photos, not go broke. As these large companies don’t print on other materials, or print custom sizes, they require less labour thereby minimising overheads. We care little for ‘the bulk market’ and specialise as required. When you factor time into the equation we actually work out cheaper, and we also offer wholesale and quantity discounts.

Delivery

The simple answer is YES! We are devoted to keeping customers happy, and as all photo printing is done in-house delays are minimal for most standard jobs. If you have special needs, it’s always good to discuss these needs with us prior to job commencement.

Ordering online...

Ordering online is easy and can be done through this website. NOTE: your browser must be ‘Java enabled’ and not hiding behind a heavy firewall. In general, if you are ordering from a home PC or Mac then there’s no problem. If you are trying to order from a large network like a corporation or Government Department then you will probably hit a snag, as large company owned networks are usually crippled when it comes to private internet traffic.

To order online click on the globe at the top right hand corner (displayed on most pages). Follow the instructions on each page and send your order.

Also, you can use an ftp program (file transfer protocol) to upload files and folders. Filezilla Client is a free program (available from http://filezilla-project.org/) for PC’s and Macs. Don’t forget to send an email with your details.

Use the following protocols:
