Photos are made of pixels.
Each pixel has a discreet colour and value.
When a photo or picture made of pixels is enlarged beyond it's original resolution, the pixels become very visible and the definition of the image or picture becomes poorer.
If a graphical object like a logo is saved as a bitmap, or scanned off a document, it needs to be converted to a vector graphic so it can be enlarged without pixelisation.
